Bath linens, as the name suggests, are pieces of linen (or other types of fabrics) that are used for washing, wiping and drying in the bathroom, washroom, cloakroom, study/closet, toilet, sauna, etc. They can be used for other water-related activities outside these wet spaces, while sunbathing on the deck of the house, relaxing on the beach, or training in a gym. Historically, towels were used in public bath facilities in many cultures. Nowadays, they vary from as small items as cloths and mitts to as large ones as towels and sheets. Shower curtains and bath mats can be also classified within the big family of bath linens. There is a wide range of bath towels, and the main difference among them is predominantly in the sizes, as well as the usage. Usually, there are established standard sizes for the individual pieces of bath linen. However, the names and functions can be interchangeable. In this token, a bath towel can be a particular standardized item and also, a general term for all towels used in the bathroom.
BATH TOWEL—usual sizes are 70x130cm, 75x150cm. Used for wiping and drying the body after showering or bathing; for wrapping wet hair after washing. Also, as a general term for the towels used in a bathroom. Its multipurpose use makes it also suitable for the gym or other sports center.
WASHCLOTH—usual sizes are 30x30cm, 35x50cm. Used for rubbing and washing of the body in the shower or bath.
FACE CLOTH—usual sizes are 30x30cm, 35x50cm. Used for rubbing and cleaning of the face during washing. The purpose of its dedicated usage is hygienic to avoid the cross-spread of microbes from cloths used on the body.
FACE TOWEL—usual sizes are 30x30cm, 35x50cm. Used for wiping and drying of the face after washing. The purpose of its dedicated usage is hygienic to avoid the cross-spread of microbes from towels used for other parts of the body.
HAND TOWEL—usual sizes are 40/45×70/75cm, 44x70cm/48x70cm, 50×85/90/100cm. Used for wiping and drying the hands after washing.
FOOT TOWEL—sizes differ. Used for wiping the feet after a wash in the shower or bath. It can be a substitute for a bath rug or bath mat in the absence of other cover on the bathroom floor.
FINGERTIP TOWEL—usual size is 30x45cm. Intended for guest use. Usually kept decoratively folded by the sink or in the guest bedroom.
GUEST TOWEL—30×50/60cm, 40x60cm, 44x70cm, 48x70cm, 46x76cm. Used for the same wiping and drying purpose and can be of the same size of a fingertip towel, face towel, or hand towel. Usually kept in a guest bathroom or a toilet room. Intended for guest use, it has a more representative, decorative look and is freshly used.
DECK TOWEL—usual size is 95x180cm. Used for covering the surface of a deck chair or sun lounger, and for ensuring comfort and protection while lying, sitting, or other way of resting.
BEACH TOWEL—usual size is 95x180cm. Used for covering the top lying surface on a beach, for protection from the sand or gravel, for drying after going out of the water, and for ensuring privacy in public spaces.
SHEET TOWEL / BATH SHEET—usual sizes are 100x150cm, 80x160cm, 90×175/180cm. Used for wrapping the whole body in publicly open facilities such as baths, saunas, spa and massage centers, as well as on the beach.
SAUNA TOWEL—Used for wrapping and visual protection of the body, better comfort and for wiping of perspiration.
HUCHBACK TOWEL—woven in the ancient huckback weave, which provides uneven surface allowing greater water absorption and quicker drying of the body while stimulating the blood circulation. Durable while lightweight. Used for spa and the beach.
TERRY TOWEL / TERRY CLOTH—woven in looped weave. Used for bath linens and kitchen linens, and also bedding, as it has a great capacity to absorb water.
WASH / HAND MITT / MITTEN—26×16 cm. A pouch-shaped piece of linen (or other fabric) to fit the hand in. Used for rubbing and washing the body or the face.
BATH MITT / MITTEN—26×16 cm. Used for rubbing and washing the body or the face in the bath.
SHOWER CURTAIN—175x175cm, 175x180cm, 180x180cm. Used for visual protection and privacy during showering or bathing, and for preventing water from splashing out of the shower or bathtub.
SAUNA PILLOW—20x46cm. Used for better comfort of the head during a sauna session.
SAUNA SEAT COVER—46x60cm, 46x150cm. Used for covering the surface of a sauna bench for greater comfort and protection of the body against heat and moisture, and the inconvenience of perspiration.
SAUNA MAT—30x45cm. Used for covering the floor surface of a sauna for greater comfort and protection against high temperatures and the risk of slipping over.
BATH MAT—45x60cm, 55x85cm. Used for covering the areas in front of sinks, showers, bathtubs, toilet seats for better comfort and protection against slipping and water accumulation on the floor after washing. Absorbent and warm to feet, usually framed-shaped and with anti-slippery pad underneath.
BATH RUG—45x60cm, 55x85cm. Used for covering the tiled floors of bathrooms for better comfort of walking in bare feet and keeping warm and dry.
